These are just a few sites that I found interesting or useful. Please feel free to submit details of your site. In general, I don't include links to commercial enterprises, but I might make exceptions for sites that include content that is beyond mere advertising!
General Resources:
BBC Cornwall Homepage The BBC's Cornish page carries local news, information, events, weather, history, links, etc, etc, etc. A good place to get started.
Cornish Connexions A compendious site which has useful links (clearly arranged) to Cornish business, culture and tourism.
The Cornish Links Directory
The biggest collection of links to Cornish people
and places on the web. Fully searchable and easy to use.
Cornwall 24
Bills itself as "independent news and comment for the independently-minded". Well worth a visit, particularly if you favour Cornish independence.
Cornwall Guide
A new site that looks promising: not much there now, but I have no doubt that it will grow...
Cornwall
Online The best website for information about Cornwall. It has loads of lovely images, lots of useful information about Cornwall now and Cornwall past, and plenty of links to useful Cornish sites. It is clearly presented and usefully arranged.
The Cornwall Tourist Board
Official information on visiting Cornwall. Loads of information, and they will send you brochures as well, if you ask...
The Magic of Cornwall An interesting collection of images and historical bits and bobs. Many of the images of 'Old Cornwall' are for sale.
This Is Cornwall Cornwall's news service, run by the company who publish The West Briton, The Cornishman and The Cornish Guardian. Up-to-date news from Cornwall and from around the world with all the stuff you'd expect from your local newspaper (small ads).
There is also a wealth of information on Cornish entertainment, culture and community.
Rosemary's Cornwall Links A lovely site, described by its owner as 'a large personal collection of Cornish links which are both useful and idiosyncratic'. They are also fun and pretty to look at - although those of you with low-resolution monitors might find the scrolling a bit arduous...
Places to Visit
(Also known to fans of Westward TV as: "What's on and where to go: some holiday suggestions for you and your family")
Please let me know if you have a web site that you'd like me to list here. I will list any Cornish attraction - but my comments will be honest!
The Eden Project
An extraordinary and wonderful place: a disused quarry has been covered in geodesic domes to provide a haven for endangered species. A 'must visit' for all visitors to Cornwall. Also, take a look at my Eden Project Page
Land's End
The most westerly point in England. Although degraded by commercial developers and over-visiting, Land's End still retains much of its grandeur. It is the most spectacular cliff site in Britain that can easily be visited by people with disabilities.
Paradise Park, Hayle
Paradise Park has started to call itself a 'wildlife sanctuary', but everyone in Cornwall knows that it is a bird sanctuary with a range of native and foreign, er, birds. If you like birds you'll love it. Particularly if you like parrots. It has been voted best Cornish day out a few times, so you can't really go wrong (unless you have a bird phobia...)
The Royal Cornwall Museum
Situated in the heart of Truro, this is an excellent regional museum. The exhibits on Cornish history are well worth a visit, the geological collection is particularly good, and there are often important exhibitions of Cornish artists such as Bryan Pierce and Bernard Leach. You will probably want to miss the antiquities collection, however, which is only a dim reflection of the glories in the British Museum in London.
The Seal Sanctuary, Gweek
Seals seem to be on the increase in Cornwall - especially on the North Coast. The Gweek seal sanctuary, near Helston, is a little distant from Godrevy and Wicca Pool, but they look after seals here. So much so that you are in danger of suffering a cuteness overdose... Ahhh!
Tate St. Ives
The Tate run the best galleries of modern art in the world: one in Liverpool, two in London, and the sublime Tate St. Ives. St. Ives has long been an artists' colony, and the Tate shows off local artists' work in the environment in which it was created. Of particular interest is the Barbara Hepworth collection of sculpture.
Cornish Culture and History
artcornwall.org
As the name suggests, this is a site dedicated to art in Cornwall... It is, in fact, an excellent collection of information about Cornish art old and new, and it also gives details of forthcoming events and exhibitions.
The Cornish Folklore Society
This is a brilliant site: great fun and informative at the same time. Contains information on a range of Cornish folk lore and legend, illustrated by old prints and modern photography. Highly recommended.
A Cornish Soucebook
A really useful website with masses of information about Cornish history and culture. Particularly useful is the comprehensive guide to Cornish place names.
Cornwall Centre (Kresenn Kernow)
Home of the Cornish Studies Library and Redruth Tourist Information Centre (June-September). The Cornish Studies Library is internationally recognised as the premier establishment for researching Cornwall, past and present.
Krows Kernewek
Website 'dedicated to the historic and ancient crosses of South West Cornwall'. In fact, this site is a showcase for Cornish jeweller Alex Everitt, whose designs are inspired by Cornish crosses, but the pictures of the crosses themselves are so lovely that I have relaxed my rule on commercial websites and included it here.
The Trevithick Society
Great website dedicated to Richard Trevithick, Camborne's inventor of the high pressure steam engine.
Wheal Agar
A detailed website charting the ins and outs of life and business at Wheal Agar tin mine in the 1850s. A really interesting site for anyone interested in Cornish history, particularly, the history of mining.
Parish Chest A Cornwall-based site offering information for genealogists and all those in search of their ancestors, whether in Cornwall or around the world. Lots of useful links and information.
The Cornish Language - An Tavas Kernewek
Warlinenn - The Cornish Language Online
A serious, educational, but also fun and easy-to-use guide to Kernewek - the Cornish language. Includes a dictionary, phrasebook, and guide to Cornish place name elements. One of the best websites I've seen in ages.
"Mowth on ‘un like Dolcoath shaft"
Some fantastic bilingual poetry by Pol Hodge - Cornish and English dual texts, but with the emphasis on the Cornish... The site is hosted by the Brindin Press.
Education Links
Cornwall College This is the place that got me started on the road to academe. It's a fine regional college.
Camborne School of Mines Now part of Exeter University, but still based in Camborne, West Cornwall, CSM offers the best education in mining anywhere in the world.
The Institute of Cornish Studies Based in Truro, but part of Exeter University, this is the most important academic institution involved in Cornish studies and the only one to offer an MA in Cornish Studies.
Sense of Place "Sense of Place is a project begun and funded by Cornwall Local Authority. It delivers the curriculum in Cornish schools with distinctiveness and diversity." Very interesting site for all teachers, whether based in Cornwall or not.
University College Falmouth No longer just an art college, UCF offers many degrees in the arts, culture, and media.
